Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
